Charlotte celebrates birth of girl - Sept 23 2007
Welsh singer Charlotte Church has given birth to a girl.

The 21-year-old Channel 4 chat show host opted for a home birth at the plush farmhouse she shares with her boyfriend and Welsh rugby international, Gavin Henson, in St Brides Major, in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales.

A spokeswoman for Church said: "A baby girl was born sometime on Thursday evening or possibly Friday morning. Midwives were present at the home birth." The spokeswoman had no details of the baby’s weight or name.

A message posted by the webmaster of the singer’s internet site, www.charlottechurch.com, said: "Gavin has informed us that Charlotte gave birth to a beautiful baby girl at home on Thursday night.

"Gavin was there at the birth. He has told us that mother and baby are doing just fine. We have no further details yet, but we expect to be able to bring an exclusive announcement from the couple some time on Monday.

"I’m sure everyone will agree that this is fantastic news and will want to join us at CC.com in wishing them our very best."

Henson was omitted from the Ospreys regional rugby squad for their Magners League match against Ulster on Friday night despite predictions from his coach he would be on the bench before the game.

In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan magazine, Church said her attempts to buy a pregnancy test in secret didn’t go to plan. She told the magazine: "I missed a period so I had to find out if I was pregnant.

"I didn’t want to go to a chemist in case anyone saw me, so I thought I’d put on a hoodie, go to Tesco, buy a test and put it through the self-checkout.

"It all went horribly wrong. I was hanging around for ages, waiting for the medical section to clear. The pregnancy kit had a security tag on it, which I had to take to the counter to be removed. I couldn’t have drawn more attention to myself if I’d tried!"

Biography

Forget Johnny Wilkinson, rugby’s new main man is Gavin Henson - inside centre for Wales and fly half for top Celtic club the Ospreys, this is the guy that secured Wales’ astounding win at the Six Nations Championships this year (2005).

Born on February 1st 1982 in Bridgend, South Wales, Gavin certainly has the rugby bug in his blood - his father, Alan Henson played prop for Maesteg - and from a young age he showed real promise on the pitch and wowed anyone who saw him play at junior level.

Gavin made his senior debut for Swansea in 2000 and the following year earned his first Wales cap while touring Japan and was named IRB and Wales Young Player of the Year. However, not long after the player Gavin had been playing in the place of returned and his international career was cut short and he concentrated on his place within the Ospreys.

2004 saw him back on the Wales first team and a number of good performances, including a record fourteen conversions in a test against Japan during the Autumn internationals, secured his place as one of Wales’ top players and, following this, he was a shoo in for a place on the 2005 Six Nations team and the Lions tour in the same year.

Gavin’s Six Nations performance, more than helping Wales’ with the series of wins that saw them lift the Grand Slam trophy, has cemented his place in the rugby hall of fame while his relationship with Cardiff singing sensation Charlotte Church has thrown him in to the media spotlight and made him the most recognisable sports star since that English rugby player.now what was his name again?
