Jamie lands whopping book deal? - April 17 2006

Jamie Oliver has apparently landed a £2.5 million deal to write his autobiography.

The celebrity chef, 31, will spill the beans on cooking for Prime Minister Tony Blair and his school dinners campaign, the Daily Mirror reports.

It’s thought to be the biggest book deal ever for a TV chef and one of the highest offers for a celebrity’s life story.

A friend of Jamie’s told the paper: "Jamie feels it is the right time to bring out his book.

"He has achieved more than most celebrities who write autobiographies."

Jamie’s spokesman said: "He’s keen to tell his story the way it happened."

The down-to-earth chef has sold more than 10 million cook books worldwide and is apparently planning another to be released in time for this Christmas.

Jamie’s School Dinners picked up a Bafta award last year for best factual series.

TV chef offers reward over robbery - April 16 2007

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has offered a £150,000 reward to help police catch the robbers who stole £10,000 from the pub where he grew up.

Five men armed with baseball bats and hammers raided The Cricketers at Clavering, Essex, which is owned by the chef’s parents Trevor and Sally, police said.

The gang attacked at around 11pm on Sunday as the pub was closing and made off with cash from a till and a safe.

A spokesman for the chef said Oliver, on a business trip in America, would hand over the money to anyone who could produce information that would lead to an arrest and conviction.

He added: "He is angry. He grew up in the pub and first started to learn to cook there.

"These guys have gone in armed with a hammer, scared the customers, scared the staff and pushed an elderly member of staff to the floor. He’s offering £150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any of these people responsible.

"He’s disappointed and shocked that this kind of thing happens in a small Essex Village."

Oliver talks about growing up at the pub on his website, where he describes The Cricketers as "lovely".

His father has appeared with him on television food programmes.

"My dad runs a lovely pub-restaurant, The Cricketers, in Clavering, Essex, where I grew up," writes the chef. "I remember being fascinated by what went on in the kitchen. It just seemed such a cool place, everyone working together to make this lovely stuff and having a laugh doing it."

Biography

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver thinks everything is ’pukka’ which means upper class or well-bred according to my dictionary. He came into my local once, admittedly only to shoot a short scene for his intensely irritating Sainsbury’s TV advertising campaign, which he reputedly trousered a cool million quid for. He’s made lots out of his books as well, which are mostly about cooking. Recently moved to a new home in Hampstead with wife Juliette Norton.
