Guy to direct The Gamekeeper - July 26 2007
Guy Ritchie is set to direct a film version of the comic series The Gamekeeper.

The story features a reclusive caretaker of a Scottish estate with a dark past. When the alleged killer of his son surfaces, the gamekeeper uses his tracking skills and expert knowledge of the animal kingdom to hunt down his prey.

Warner Bros will make the film, according to screen bible Variety.

The Gamekeeper comic was based on an idea by Guy and written by author Andy Diggle as part of Virgin Comics’ Director’s Cut, a series of stories from filmmakers.

Warner’s production president Jeff Robinov said: "After reading Guy’s comics, we knew instantly that the action-packed story and complex characters would resonate with film audiences."

Guy, 38, found acclaim in 1998 with gangster caper Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. However his later movie Swept Away, in which he cast his superstar wife Madonna, went straight to DVD after a mauling from critics.

His last gangster movie Revolver was voted 2005’s biggest screen turkey.

He is currently directing RocknRolla, starring Thandie Newton.

Madonna and Guy have been rowing - Aug 30, 2020
Madonna and Guy Ritchie have reportedly been rowing over their children’s schooling. Guy has grown increasingly unhappy with his wife taking Lourdes, nine, and five-year-old Rocco with her on her current ’Confessions’ world tour.

The ’Snatch’ director is reportedly fed up with the constant upheaval and has demanded the children are left in one place when the new school year begins next week.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "The kids already have schools in London and Los Angeles which they float between. "Madonna thinks it’s good for her children to be with mum and see the world but Guy disagrees - he’s more traditional. It’s causing a lot of tension."

Earlier this year, Madonna confessed she was a "c**p mother". The 48-year-old singer admitted she was finding it a struggle to balance her career with being a parent. She said at the time: "It is a struggle to balance my career with my children. I’m always going, ’Oh God, I’m a c**p mother’. I want to get home and put my kids to bed. "And then sometimes, if I’m spending a lot of time with my children, I think, ’Oh God, I just want to be an artist’."

Biography

Guy Ritchie shot to fame after his film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels catapulted its way into cinemas in 1998. Millions of people flocked to see his depiction of the dodgy dealings of London gangsters, and it went on to become a multi-award winner, grossing £11.7m at the UK box office.

His second film, Snatch, also did well, taking £3m in its first weekend earlier this year, a record opening for an 18-rated film. The diamond-heist drama has so far grossed £12.3m in the UK and is soon to be released in the US. But, of course, it is not just Ritchie’s film successes that command the hundreds of column inches written about him each week. The 32-year-old’s marriage with pop icon Madonna and the birth of their son Rocco has caught the imagination of the public.

He began his career as a film runner in the UK in 1993, quickly progressing to directing music promos for bands and commercials by 1995. The money he made from this enabled him to direct his first film - Hard Case, a 20-minute short and after meeting his producing partner Matthew Vaughn, the two formed SKA Films. They went on to make Lock Stock, and two years later Snatch was released.

Ritchie also spotted the acting potential in footballer Vinnie Jones, who terrified opponents on the field with his crunching tackles.

He is now working on a 17th Century civil war action drama, which is slated for production in 2001.

He spent much of his childhood at Loton Park, in Shropshire, the 17th century home of his baronet stepfather.

Ritchie was born in Hatfield in Hertfordshire in 1968. His parents divorced when he was five, and he went to live with his mother, Amber, who was a model, and her new husband, Sir Michael Leighton, until she divorced again when he was 12.

It is reported that his severe dyslexia meant he attended a total of 10 schools, and left with one GCE in film studies. He got a job at Island Records, before pursuing his interest in film-making.
