He joked the duo had been discussing names for the baby.

"I’m thinking Genghis, Gandhi or Goliath for the kid. Something with a G has got a ring to it," he laughed.

Noel: Music doesn’t mean as much today - June 16 2007
Music doesn’t mean as much as it used to, according to Noel Gallagher.

Oasis are taking part in a Radio 2 programme celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ legendary album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

And Noel told the station: "Music was the only outlet for kids at that time. Now it’s all video games and all-day television. Music doesn’t mean as much today as it did back then.

"At the time that the Beatles were exploding around the world, youth culture was exploding. Youth was in. You can’t compare those days to today."

Oasis will join the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight and Travis on tomorrow night’s show.

Each band has recorded their own version of a Sgt Pepper track, using the original equipment from the Abbey Road studios.

Oasis chose George Harrison track Within You, Without You.

Noel said of the album: "It’s special for me because I was born on May 29 and it came out on June 1, so when I was being born in St Mary’s, Manchester, it was being played on hospital radio."

He also revealed he was barred from seeing Sir Paul McCartney play a secret gig last week because his girlfriend, Sara MacDonald, is pregnant.

He said: "Funnily enough, I bumped into him that day in Selfridges.

"He was gigging that night but my missus is pregnant so I’m confined to barracks. I was gutted but when your missus is pregnant it’s like you’re pregnant."

Noel to host fancy dress party? - April 17 2007
Noel Gallagher is apparently going to celebrate his 40th birthday in style - by hosting a massive fancy dress party.

The Oasis star has issued invites to the "Tyrants and Despots" bash - and has decided to go as Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, reports The Sun.

A source said: "The party will be totally insane.

"Noel has a brilliant but really dark sense of humour, as his plans show. It’s going to be a mad, mad night."

Noel and his brother Liam are big fans of getting dressed up. Liam once went to a party as Jesus and Noel has apparently admitted he was once in costume when an invite from the Prime Minister to drinks at Downing Street appeared in his letterbox.

He was recently quoted as saying: "I defy anybody to have an official f***ing letter drop through the letterbox, while you’re dressed as an Afghan clown, at five in the morning".

Those expected at the knees-up include Kasabian and Paul Weller.

Oasis: Noel isn’t going solo - April 16 2007
Oasis have denied reports that Noel Gallagher is launching a solo career.

The band’s official website, Oasisnet, released a statement quashing rumours that Noel was due to play at Glastonbury on his own.

"Noel Gallagher is not preparing to launch into a solo career nor will he be playing at Glastonbury this June, as have been strongly suggested in some circles," the statement said.

The songwriter was described as "an avid fan" of Glasto, who would "no doubt" be attending the festival.

And the statement added that Noel had enjoyed playing acoustic sets but would be concentrating on writing songs in the near future.
