Little Britain stepping into unknown - July 25 2007
David Walliams and Matt Lucas can't wait to hit the US with their cult show Little Britain - because it's virtually unheard of there.

Whenever the pair head outside in the UK, they have to endure fans yelling catchphrases like "yeah but no but" and "I'm a laydee".

And David, 35, said in a documentary about their Australian tour that he liked the thought of pastures new.

He said: "I quite like the idea of starting again. Very little is known of us in America."

The US television series will begin in the Autumn, featuring new and old characters.

And the comedy duo also revealed that there will definitely not be another Little Britain series for the BBC.

Matt, 33, said: "There comes a point in your life when you have to move on."

Little Britain Down Under airs on BBC One on Friday July 27.

Comic duo to tackle bobsleigh run? - June 22 2007
David Walliams and Matt Lucas are apparently hoping to tackle the terrifying Cresta Run.

The Little Britain comedians want to attempt the bobsleigh course - which includes speeds of up to 80 mph - for charity, says the Daily Star.

It would follow David’s swim across the channel for Sport Relief.

Matt has vowed to join his pal to raise money for the same cause, and the duo are hoping to complete the Swiss run later this year as part of a four-man team.

A source said: "David and Matt are keen on tackling something together for this worthy course and someone came up with the idea of the Cresta Run. It was a bit of a jokey suggestion, but the boys are deadly serious and definitely considering taking on the challenge. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but there have been talks.

"There are plenty of obstacles to overcome - not least getting them insured, but they are keen."

Lucas ’would love to be Doctor Who’ - Mar 22 2007
Funnyman Matt Lucas wants to play the Doctor in Doctor Who, according to his partner Kevin McGee.

With David Tennant and the executive producer of the show Russell T Davies keeping tight-lipped about who will be the Doctor in the fourth series, Matt has thrown his hat into the ring.

Speaking at the premiere for series three of Doctor Who, Kevin said the Little Britain star would love to be in the long-running show. He said: "I think he would like to be the Doctor and yes I can see him playing that role."

He added "He (Matt) would love to be in Doctor Who and I would love him to as well."

Kevin said it was a "complete dream" to star in a Doctor Who.

"Unfortunately I lack any acting talent. I would have to be behind the scenes if anything," he added.

Matt takes a TV break - Dec 21 2006
It’ll be tricky to avoid Matt Lucas this Christmas, as the newly-married star returns to TV screens with Little Britain Abroad - two new specials of the hit sketch show - and the lavish new adaptation of The Wind In The Willows.

But the actor himself says he and his TV producer partner Kevin McGee will be avoiding watching the telly as much as possible during the holiday.

"One thing I don’t do is sit down and watch my own shows," he says. "And even if I wanted to Kevin wouldn’t allow it.

"We’ll be on the Xbox or something. Or we’ll be watching the other great BBC television programmes," he laughs.

Biography

Matt Lucas was born on March 5 1974 and raised in Stanmore, Middlesex.  He was educated at the Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, which produced fellow Jewish comedians David Baddiel and Sacha Baron Cohen.  He also studied drama at the University of Bristol.

At the age of eighteen Lucas began his comedy career, taking his character Sir Bernard Chumley (a character who would later appear on Little Britain) to the stage.  Spotted in 1992 by Bob Mortimer he was soon a regular fixture on The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, followed by Shooting Stars, playing George Dawes.

In 1999 Lucas hooked up with friend David Walliams to produce Rock Profiles, a series of popstar spoofs.  Not long afterwards the duo were offered a Radio 4 slot for their new creation, Little Britain.  In 2003 the show transferred to BBC 3, quickly becoming a comedy phenomenon and being promoted to BBC One in 2004.

Between chuckles Lucas has taken on various acting roles including that of Leigh Bowery in Boy George’s musical Taboo, a venetian duke in Casanova and Sir Oswald in Plunkett and Maclean.  He is now set to release a charity single alongside Peter Kay in 2007.

He was joined to partner, television producer Kevin McGee, in a 2006 civil partnership.
