George brings red carpet home - Mar 26 2008
George Clooney shunned Hollywood in favour of a small town in Kentucky for the premiere of his latest film.

The Hollywood heartthrob braved the cold to bring the red carpet - and Leatherheads co-star Renee Zellweger - to the Washington Opera House in Maysville, Kentucky.

He chose the town because it is where his father Nick, and aunt, singer Rosemary, grew up.

It was the town’s first Hollywood premiere since Rosemary brought her movie, The Stars Are Singing, in 1953.

"It was a huge part of my life, this town. I’m just like them. I just happen to be a little more famous," he told the Louisville Courier-Journal, the local paper.

"They really are family. If you’re from a small town you don’t really ever shake that. It’s the best support system and they’re always the biggest critics, which is kind of the fun of it."

Leatherheads is a romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s professional football. It is due for release on April 4.

George denies ER return rumours - Mar 19 2008
Bad news for ER fans - George Clooney has denied stories that he will be reprising his role as Dr Doug Ross in the medical drama.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, the 46-year-old heart-throb revealed that the topic of him donning scrubs again has never been discussed.

"No, never - we never even talked about it. No one has ever asked me. It’s the funniest thing," he said.

"The story came out, and I was like, ’Where did that come from?’ It was everywhere - in one day!"

The Michael Clayton star, who next stars in Leatherheads, admitted the news also came as a surprise to TV executives, such as ER’s executive producer John Wells.

"I ran into John Wells two days ago on the lot, and said to him, ’What the hell happened?’ He said, ’I don’t know. I don’t know where that came from.’"

The ER role, which George played for five years, made him a household name and launched his Hollywood career, something that he is thankful for.

"I was 33 when ER hit, so I have a very different outlook on the way things work," he added.

"I don’t think I was supposed to have been famous. I realise how much of this is luck."

Leatherheads is released in the UK on Friday April 11.

Clooney set for godfather duty? - Mar 18 2008
George Clooney has apparently landed another big role - as godfather to Nicole Kidman’s baby.

The actress and her country singer husband Keith Urban are expecting their first child together, and George, whom Nicole met on 1997 film The Peacemaker, has agreed to be its godfather, reports the Daily Mirror.

"Nicole asked George to be her baby’s godfather and he said ’yes’," a source said. "They are great friends and she can think of no-one more perfect for the job."

Earlier this year George said the actress would make a fine parent.

"She will be a perfect mother; Nicole will be great," he said.

The hunky actor, 46, famously made a bet with 40-year-old Nicole and Hollywood beauty Michelle Pfeiffer that he wouldn’t father a child of his own before hitting 50.

He once explained: "They each bet 10,000 dollars I’d be a dad before I was 40. But I sent them back their cheques and said, ’Let’s go double or nothing until I’m 50.’ So I’ll have to be careful with the ladies - no wedding or kids."

George denies engagement rumours - Mar 12 2008

George Clooney has reportedly denied he’s popped the question to girlfriend Sarah Larson.

Biography

Irish American George Timothy Clooney was always destined to be an entertainer with a former pageant queen mother (Nina) and Game Show Host and Anchorman father (Nick).  He is also the nephew of acclaimed Singer Rosemary Clooney and Actor Jose Ferrar.

As a child George often spent time on set with his father, even taking part in shows he was involved in.  Despite some early promise as an athlete - even trying out for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team in 1977 - and an attempt at further education (never a promising student, he dropped out of both Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati), George soon followed in the showbiz family footsteps, auditioning for several parts in television series’.  He was first noticed thanks to a role on the popular sitcom Roseanne during the 1980s but it wasn’t until 1994 and a part as handsome, moody Doctor Doug Ross in fast paced drama ER (not to be confused with Clooney’s earlier role in comedy E/R), that the actor really hit the big time.

With five years as Dr Doug under his belt Clooney made the leap to movies, starring in From Dusk ’Til Dawn, Three Kings, The Perfect Storm and O Brother, Where Art Thou? to much acclaim.  He had also starred alongside Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight and taken on the role of Batman during his ER years, ensuring he was now Hollywood A-list.

However it was his relationship with Out of Sight Director Stephen Soderburgh that would ensure Clooney made film history.  The duo paired up for the first in a blockbusting franchise in 2001 - Ocean’s Eleven, and its successors, would team Clooney with fellow heartthrobs Brad Pitt and Matt Damon and hit the number one spot worldwide.  Although the role of Danny Ocean would ensure Clooney’s continuing popularity with the public he was also determined to show he was more than a pretty face and a winning smile.  In 2002 he made his directorial debut with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, although not a huge box office success the film won critical acclaim.

This was just the beginning of Clooney’s critical success.  He soon followed Confessions with Good Night and Good Luck, which earned him Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.  In the same year he was nominated for, and went on to win, Best Supporting Actor for his role in Syriana.

Clooney has since teamed up with Soderburgh not only on further Oceans movies but on The Good German, released in 2006.  Away from the film set he is an active campaigner having been outspoken about not only the Iraq war but the Darfur crisis and global warming.  There have even been rumours that he may enter politics, however Clooney himself says ’run for office? No...I’ve slept with too many women, taken too many drugs and I’ve been to too many parties.’

A confirmed bachelor, George was previously married to fellow actor Talia Balsam, from 1989 to 1993 and was linked to British model Lisa Snowdon on and off for some time.  However he claims he will never again marry or have children, preferring to spend time with friends including Oceans co-stars Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts and, until recently, his pot bellied pig Max, who died in 2006.
