Tennant: Jessica is inspirational - Oct 25 2007
David Tennant has confessed that the main reason he accepted his latest role was so he would have another chance to work with Jessica Hynes.

David and Jessica worked together on last year's Doctor Who Christmas special, and the Scottish star readily admits he was thrilled when the part of Chris in Learners came up.

"Jessica was on Doctor Who and she told me she had this thing coming up," he explained.

"I asked her if there was anything for me, and she thought I was joking, which I wasn't. So I kept asking and she told me there might be, and that was it."

In the upcoming BBC drama the pair play a driving instructor and a downtrodden housewife. Romance soon blossoms during her lessons.

And David has nothing but praise for Confetti star Jessica.

"She's one of those actors who is so in the moment each time, in every scene, that she never fails to inspire you," he raved.

"I've always been a fan of Jessica and when I worked with her, I became even more of a fan."

Learners is set to air on BBC One on November 11.

David wants to play a villain? - Sept 27 2007
David Tennant has reportedly declared that he wants to play a villain for his next TV part.

The Doctor Who star - who has been playing the infamous role in the hit sci-fi show since 2005 - says he particularly enjoyed the original Batman TV series and would love to play the baddie.

"I’d love to play the Riddler and be bad to Batman," the Daily Express quoted the star as saying.

"It was so much fun to watch. I thought the Riddler was one of the most freakish villains, especially with that wild laugh.

"Every morning there would be a new villain - Eartha Kitt as Catwoman with that gurgling meow, Cesar Romero as the frenzied Joker and Burgess Meredith’s ’quack-quacking’ penguin."

The star - who is also known for appearances in Casanova and The Romantics - reportedly added that playing the Riddler "would be a boyhood dream come true".

David eyes Bond role - April 6 2007
David Tennant would apparently love to take some time off from his Time Lord duties - to be a Bond baddie.

After months of saving the world, the Doctor Who star says he’d love to cause some mayhem in a 007 flick.

"I’d like to be a Bond baddie," he told the Daily Mirror, revealing that he’d already had some ideas about the type of villain he could be.

"They always have some disability, don’t they? I could have one leg and be stroking a chicken saying, ’I’ve infected the world with bird flu’," he said.

But the 35-year-old insists he wouldn’t play the dashing spy himself, particularly as hunky Daniel Craig looks as if he’s in for the long haul.

"I think that job’s taken for a while - mind you, I said that about Doctor Who," he said.

Even if he doesn’t get his wish, David has apparently been inundated with offers of work as a result of his star turn as the Doctor.

He is now gearing up to play a driving instructor in a new BBC film. Learners starts shooting this month and will be shown later this year.

Biography

Born David John McDonald to Reverend Sandy McDonald and his wife, David Tennant (his stage name, adopted because there was already a David McDonald on Equity’s books) reportedly decided he wanted to become an actor at the age of three because of his love of Doctor Who.  Educated at Ralston Primary and the Paisley Grammar School near home in Renfrewshire, he went on to further his education at Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

In the early 90s Tennant moved to London, where he lodged with comic actress Arabella Weir.  During this time he worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company, specialising in comic roles and later became a favourite of the BBC, first appearing in Taking Over The Asylum in 1994 and ten years later He Knew He Was Right, Casanova and Blackpool.  Meanwhile he began working in films, picked by Stephen Fry to appear in Bright Young Things and playing Barty Crouch Jr in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

Although Tennant’s name had been put forward for the role of the ninth doctor when Doctor Who returned to our screens, Christopher Eccleston was a shoo in for the role.  However, when Eccleston, worried about being typecast, quit after just one series the Beeb went back to their original list, confirming that Tennant would be the tenth doctor in April 2005.  His first full outing as the doctor was on Christmas Day 2005 and in 2006 he was voted Best Doctor by readers of Doctor Who Magazine.  Meanwhile he was also voted one of the most influential British actors by The Stage, Sexiest Man in the Universe by The Pink Paper, Scotland’s Most Stylish Man and came 20th in New Woman’s Top 100 Men.

Although the doctor has taken up much of Tennant’s time recently, he has also found time to appear in several television dramas including The Chatterley Affair and Recovery plus trace his ancestry to Ireland in Who Do You Think You Are?

Tennant is reportedly dating actress Sophia Myles, who he met on set when she played Madame De Pompadour in an episode of Doctor Who.
