Amy Winehouse’s husband is remanded - Nov 11 2007
Singer Amy Winehouse looked on tearfully as her husband was remanded in custody charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, of Jeffrey’s Place, Camden, north London, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court, east London.

District Judge John Perkins remanded Fielder-Civil in custody until November 23 when he will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court, east London.

A second man, Anthony Kelly, 25, of Constable House, Chalk Farm, north London, appeared in court alongside Fielder-Civil, charged with a similar offence. He was also remanded in custody until November 23.

Winehouse, accompanied by her father Mitch, stood at the back of the courtroom next to the glass dividing the public gallery from the dock throughout this morning’s hearing.

Wearing a black top and grey pencil skirt and sporting her trademark beehive, she blew her husband kisses and mouthed "I love you" repeatedly as Fielder-Civil turned around and smiled at her.

Following the hearing Winehouse left the courthouse through a rear entrance and was driven away in a silver BMW without speaking to reporters.

The court heard that Fielder-Civil is charged with one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice. The full charge is "That on or before the 8th November 2007, within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, you conspired together with James King, to do an act namely whereby James King would withdraw from being a witness in an indictment charged before the court against another for causing grievous bodily harm to James King with intent to pervert the course of justice contrary to Section One (1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977".

The charge against Fielder-Civil’s fellow defendant, Anthony Kelly is that he "With the attempt to pervert the course of public justice did a series of acts which had a tendency to pervert the course of public justice in that you arranged with the victim and the defendants in that the victim doesn’t attend court".

Fielder-Civil is one of five men arrested in the last two days on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to a court case due to start on Monday at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court. In that case, Fielder-Civil and Michael Brown, 39, face charges of assault causing grievous bodily harm relating to an alleged incident on June 20 this year.

Police raid on Amy’s home - Nov 9 2007

Police have raided singer Amy Winehouse’s home after four men were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to a court case involving her husband.

Officers were standing guard outside the singer’s house in Jeffrey’s Place, Camden, north London, from around 5pm until 8pm on Thursday as others worked inside.

Amy, 24, and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil were both out at the time and police reportedly had to force open the door to gain entry.

Scotland Yard confirmed there was "police activity" at the property and said it was part of an "ongoing police operation".

A spokesman confirmed the arrests related to next week’s trial involving Blake, 25, and a second man, 39, who both face charges of grievous bodily harm.

But he refused to comment on whether Blake was one of the four suspects being held.

The trial concerns an incident on June 20 this year and is due to start on Monday at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

A spokesman for Amy would not give any details about the raid, but stressed that it was not related to drugs and that she is not involved.

He said: "The only thing I can tell you is that it has nothing to do with drugs and that Amy is fine and she has not been charged or arrested."

Biography

Amy Winehouse hails from Osidge Lane, Southgate, although she currently lives in Camden. She is being feted as the new big thing with a voice likened to soul artists of the caliber of American soul queen Erykah Badu.

Amy and her brother Alex were brought up by her mum and grandmother, and fondly remembers ’Growing up in East Finchley was cool.’ She started playing guitar at 12 and listening to jazz. Her acceptance into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School seemed to spell big things for Amy, although she was expelled at 15, apparently for getting her nose pierced. She carried on her studies at an all girls school in Mill Hill, which she hated as there were no fella’s there.

Amy made appearances with the Youth Jazz Orchestra, produced a demo tape of jazz covers that was picked up by Universal/Island Records, and they signed her almost immediately. She released her album Frank in October 2003 and supported Jamie Callum on his national tour. Amy then went on to be nominated for two Brit Awards, British Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Artist. Not bad for a girl of 20!
