Organic Fortnight

Food
September 1-17 2006

If the Nineties was the decade of the fad diet then the noughties are all about organic food. But this is one foodie trend that looks set to stick, and for good reason. But if you’ve yet to be convinced by the organic trend this is the ideal time to find out more as the Soil Association presents an Organic Fortnight with events and promotions across the UK.

This is an opportunity to get a taste of organic foods, to experience the difference between those perfect shiny identi-kit apples at your local supermarket and the real thing and to support local producers. There are events for all the family going on, from farm open days to guided walks, farmers markets to food festivals. There are also giveaways and promotions in stores and on line – check the Soil Association website for more details.

Of course the organic movement isn’t just about food, so the Soil Association have laid on plenty of events which will raise awareness of organic beauty and household products and clothing. How? By organising fashion shows which will prove that there’s more to organic fashion than hemp rucksacks and special pampering weekends at which you can relax and rest assured that everything that gets massaged in and spread on will be totally natural and good for you and for the environment.

In addition to the many local events in villages, towns and cities there will also be special national events taking place. The Organic Food Festival, sponsored by Yeo Valley takes place at Bristol Harbourside on September 2 & 3 and includes demonstrations from celebrity chefs, talks, tastings and much more. Meanwhile the Organic Food Awards, in association with Highland Spring, will take place on September 1. Presented by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall the awards will honour producers of organic fayre and will be followed by display opportunities all over Britain.
