"Tom is looking for a movie that will make the most of their chemistry," a source told Life and Style Weekly magazine.
"He’s devoting himself to putting together a project that will not only make Katie a bona fide star, but will put him back in the good graces of the movie-going public."
And it sounds as if the star couple are both looking to move in new directions with the flick.
"This time, he’s looking beyond the typical action roles. Katie is open to any project her fiance puts forward but is desperate to lose the ’girl next door’ image she gained from years starring as Joey in TV show ’Dawson’s Creek," said the insider.

Katie Holmes describes speculation about her baby as "heartbreaking" as she finally unveils Hollywood star Tom Cruise’s daughter Suri to the world. Their baby is pictured in Vanity Fair magazine, four and a half months after her birth. The long wait to see the high-profile couple’s daughter had prompted conspiracy theorists to question her existence.
Now Suri has been photographed by celebrity snapper Annie Leibovitz and features in a 22-page spread in the magazine. The 27-year-old actress said it had been "heartbreaking" to see what was being written about her baby and her family.
She told the magazine: "Some of the crap that’s out there, the stuff that’s said about my parents and my siblings (reports that her family did not hit it off with Cruise), it’s really frustrating the amount of s*** that’s out there. "And the stuff they say about Suri? You shouldn’t say that about us, and you can’t say that about my child."
44-year-old Tom says of the baby: "She has Kate’s lips and eyes. I think she looks like Kate". Katie, on the other hand, says: "I think she has Tom’s eyes. I think she looks like Tom." The actor says the reason they have taken so long to show Suri off to the world was because they were just living their lives and being a family.
Suri was born after months of frenzied publicity over the couple’s relationship. She is the first biological daughter for Tom, who adopted two children with Nicole Kidman.
