Jude promotes peace day - July 19 2007
Jude Law has been travelling and filming in treacherous areas of eastern Afghanistan to help promote the United Nation’s annual day of worldwide cease-fire and non-violence.

The Oscar-nominated actor, accompanied by British director Jeremy Gilley and a film crew, interviewed children, government ministers and community leaders for the movie to mark the UN’s Peace Day on September 21.

"This is a country I’d always wanted to visit," he revealed, inside a guarded UN compound in Kabul. "It was a situation that I found intriguing. I felt that if it was safe for Jeremy it must be safe for me."

The United Nations General Assembly adopted Peace Day into its global calendar of events in 2001, following the director’s lobbying campaign, which he then turned into a documentary called Peace One Day.

"Afghanistan will be the focal point for the second film, so it seemed important that Jeremy also have a sounding board, a third party perspective on his trip," Jude added.

"This film is about documenting and seeing how Peace Day can save lives."

The star’s trip was conducted in secrecy for security reasons.

Jude and Forest team up for thriller? - June 19 2007
Jude Law and Forest Whitaker are apparently set to co-star in new flick The Repossession Mambo.

The Universal Pictures thriller is set in the near future, when artificial organs can be bought on credit, with the understanding that defaulting on payment will result in a fatal repossession, reports Variety.

The film will mark the feature directing debut of British filmmaker Miguel Sapochnik, whose short film The Dreamer sparked a Hollywood bidding war over the remake rights.

Scott Stuber and Mary Parent will produce from a script penned by Eric Garcia and Garret Lerner, who wrote the script based on a novel by Garcia.

The team have been working on The Repossession Mambo with Sapochnik for the past four years. It will start shooting this summer.

Jude is no stranger to the sci-fi genre - his credits include Gattaca, Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow and AI: Artificial Intelligence.

France honours ’generous’ Jude - Mar 2 2007
British actor Jude Law said he was "speechless" today after receiving an honour from France for his contribution to cinema.

The Alfie star collected the award at a ceremony at the Residence de France in west London.

Friends and family of the actor looked on as he was given a glowing tribute by French ambassador Gerard Errera and then presented with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres medal.

With the green, white and silver medal glittering on his lapel, Jude looked slightly stunned before thanking the ambassador for his "wonderful words", which had included calling the actor exceptionally talented and a "generous man".

Jude said: "I am speechless. My mum and dad have lived in France for 15 years so really it is a country I share as my home."

Biography

David Jude Heyworth Law (now you know that isn’t there just a little part of you that wants to call him ’Dave’?) was born on December 29 1972 in the thoroughly un-glam Lewisham, London, to teachers Peter and Maggie.  Taken out of school after he was bullied, Jude started acting at the age of twelve, first at the National Youth Music Theatre then at the Guildhall School, although he later dropped out.

Jude’s early stage roles included that of Foxtrot Darling in The Fastest Clock In The Universe and Michael in Indiscrections (he would reprise this role on Broadway later in his career).  Following a part in crappy soap opera Families, Jude was cast in cult Brit-flick Shopping, alongside Sadie Frost and took a part in the acclaimed Wilde.  Moving to Hollywood proved, to begin with, a good choice for Law who garnered recognition in Gattaca, Road to Perdition and The Talented Mr Ripley, for which he was nominated for an Oscar (he was again nominated for Cold Mountain).

However, Law’s reign of the box office was not to last.  Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was a major miss while the remake of Alfie was one of 2004’s worst films.  Jude is currently working on Sleuth and Mr Blueberry Nights.  There are also rumours that he will appear in the next Superman movie.

Jude’s personal life has taken as many twists and turns as his professional one.  From his turbulent marriage to fellow Natural Nylon owner Sadie Frost, which culminated in rumours of wife swapping and affairs to his on/off engagement to young actress Sienna Miller who called time on their relationship after finding out that Jude had been shagging the nanny Jude has become a legendary cad.  He has two sons, Rafferty and Rudy and a daughter, Iris with Sadie plus a receding hairline which bears much resemblance to that of Phil Collins’.  Just think of that next time you’re having a ’Dave fantasy’ ladies...
