Both G and M eagerly read the story of Joan Hannington, a lady who was known as the Godmother in the 80’s for stealing ?3m worth of jewels. Joan spent 18 months inside and whilst there wrote her autobiography - I Am What I Am, which is what the film will be based on. But G won the role.

Joan said ’They wanted Guy Ritchie to buy it, so Madonna could play me. Number one, she can’t act. Two, she can’t do a Cockney accent and Gwyneth can. She’s really happy to be playing the part and she can’t put the book down, apparently. I’m happy that she’s doing it. I think she will do me justice. She’s very lucky to be playing me."

Who says crime doesn’t pay? Oh, that big policeman over there.

Gwynnie’s a Top Shopper!
Gwyneth Paltrow has spoke of her love for high street chain Top Shop - apparently she likes to keep her fashion ’simple’.

Speaking in Vogue magazine, Gwyneth said ’I love the fact that people say ’where did you get that?’ And I’ve spent 13 quid on it! For day, I just wear tanktops and pants. I get such a lot of stuff from Topshop. I love it’

Well, she may be keeping tight lipped about a possible wedding but we all know who the Top Man is in her life... (groan)

Senorita Gwyneth Paltrow - 15/04/03

A-list star Gwyneth Paltrow has been honoured at a special ceremony in the Spanish town Talavera de la Reina.

Mayor Rivas welcomed the actress as a "daughter" of Talavera, (she stayed there when she was a teenager as an exchange student) at a lively ceremony in the town’s Palenque theatre.

He presented her with the ceremonial keys and rod, and a parchment and ceramic plaque to mark the occasion.

Expressing her gratitude for the honour, Gwyneth said: "I’ve still got family here, it’s one of the nicest things that has ever happened to me."

She was accompanied to the ceremony by boyfriend Chris Martin.

Gwyneth Paltrow recently made the Oxford Street branch of Topshop store open an hour early just for her...

She apparently picked out so much she needed people to carry it for her - a dozen pairs of trousers and ten beanies in different colours.

Gwyneth ’ruined 50 takes’ - 20/03/03

In the film Gwyneth plays a small-town woman determined to become a flight attendant in View From The Top, which is released in the US this weekend. Her co-star Mike kept her in stitches with his impressions of people.
She said that she was ’totally unprofessional’, because she couldn’t stop laughing!

Wedding bells - 10/03/03
Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay’s Chris Martin are to marry next year with director Steven Spielberg walking the actress down the aisle.

It’s been rumoured that Chris proposed by phone on Friday, however, no official announcement will be made until a wedding ring has been bought.

Spielberg was a close friend of Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth’s father, who died of pneumonia in October last year.

25-year-old Chris missed Gwyneth so much while on tour in the US that he rang her in London to propose.

Biography

Gwyneth Kate Paltrow was born September 28, 1972, in Los Angeles, California. Gwyneth is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and television producer and director Bruce Paltrow.

The Paltrows moved to Manhattan, New York when Gwyneth was 11 years old, where she would watch her Tony award-winning mother perform at theatre festivals, inspiring the young Gwyneth to become an actress herself, an ambition which resulted in a starring role in a production of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Gwyneth returned to Los Angeles in order to attend the University of California in Santa Barbara as an art history major. While her first film role was in the 1991 film Shout, with John Travolta, her big break came along when she went out one night with her father and family friends Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw.

Big league director Spielberg was in the process of casting for his film Hook and that night, he offered Gwyneth the role of Wendy, which she instantly accepted. After her role in Hook, also starring Robin Williams and Julia Roberts, she was cast as the lead in the 1992 mini-series Cruel Doubt.

The budding actress’ resume was soon filling up, with roles in Malice, Flesh and Bone, Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle, Jefferson in Paris, and Moonlight and Valentino. Although audiences were beginning to take notice of Gwyneth, the film that threw her into the spotlight was her role as Brad Pitt’s girlfriend in the thriller Seven, which is where the highly photogenic couple met and fell in love. For a while anyway.

Following this she worked on films including The Pallbearer, Great Expectations, Sliding Doors and A Perfect Murder, although her star status was really confirmed when she accepted the Best Actress Oscar in (some say fake) floods of tears.

After a brief hiatus, Gwyneth returned to the big-screen in the beautifully shot The Talented Mr. Ripley, as Jude Law’s good-hearted girlfriend. And since has filmed Shallow Hal, Sylvia and View From The Top. Following a move to swanky Belgravia where she spends time drinking herbal tea, following a macrobiotic diet and doing Yoga with best mates Madonna and Stella McCartney, Gwynnie fell in love with Coldplay singer Chris Martin who she secretly married late in 2003 while preganant with his baby, which is due this summer.
